I am to complete one of the Edana novels and the young-adult piece I've been working on, but I may end up working out another of my ideas instead and working on Edana on the side... Still, the current goal is the Edana novel!
YA Novel
This novel is tentatively called "Dream Guy" and I intend to submit it to Harmony Ink Press (a division of Dreamspinner Press) when it is complete.
It centers around a transgender girl named Gypsy who identifies as a gay male and her gay best friend, Abel.
Summary:
Gypsy Levine is in love for the very first time, but she’s torn between pure euphoria and the cold dread in the pit of her stomach. After all, falling in love with your best friend is a no-no –especially when your best friend happens to be gay.
Abel Brendon is floating on cloud nine with his new boyfriend. Sure, it’s difficult to carry on a long-distance relationship, but no one gets him like Gyles does!
There’s just one problem: Gyles is Gypsy’s internet persona and Abel happens to be her best friend. So how does she convince Abel that she can be his dream guy?
Yeah, I think it's a bit cheesy myself, but it will probably shift a little as I get more work done on it...
Anyway!
Fifteen sticky notes of information on my characters counts as progress, right? I still really don't know Gypsy or Abel well enough to write anything about them, so that's all I really can do right now...
This story promises to an interesting one, especially since Gypsy will be seriously considering gender-reassignment surgery during the story, and Abel's "long-distance relationship" will be an interesting element to work on --especially since Gypsy obviously knows how far that distance really is!
Edana Novel
This story is tentatively called "Masquerade" and I intend to submit it to Dreamspinned Press when it is complete.
It centers around a transgender boy named Alain and Prince Sirius, the crown prince of Leander.
Summary:
Young Alain Kallistos longs to meet the handsome Prince Sirius, the Crown Prince of Leander, but he has no opportunities as the orphaned son of nobleman left to be raised by his cruel aunt and uncle. His cousin Gnosis loves him dearly, so on his birthday, she makes his fondest wish come true by dressing him in a ball gown and bringing him to the ball as her companion. Alain gets to meet the prince but finds himself forced to maintain the charade when the prince wishes to see the lovely 'Alison' again. Will Gnosis' cunning and Alain's charm be enough to keep the masquerade going or will they both lose everything for a tiny white lie?
It's a retelling of the classic Cinderella plot with a few extra elements thrown in for good measure. I love the plot so much already! If you have enjoyed my samplings with Ellery and Algernon, at least one of them will make an appearance in this piece, as well --probably both!
Progress:
I've outlined my primary characters as best I can, including Gnosis Kallistos, who will push these two together. I've got a few ideas and a few paragraphs scribbled down in places.
It's odd that I have transgender main characters for both of these. If I'd started with a different novel for Edana, it wouldn't be this way...
Anyway! Thoughts and comments are loved and appreciated! Hopefully I will have more to report in about next time --and possibly the photos to show you how I plan!
Ever yours,
~Lulu~
