My sister is learning to drive. Well, not learning to drive so much as getting her practice hours in. Anyway, about a week ago, she took a curve a little too sharp and slid into a fence post.
Yeah, you know that Terminator movie where the face melts off one of the androids and it looks a little too mechanical underneath? The right side of my car kind of looks like that. So now we need to get replacement parts from the junk yard, which will be tons-o-fun to attach. We've gotta get it taken care of, though, since I literally don't have a turn signal in the front right now. Yep, gonna be fun.
So it was a pretty slow night at work last Saturday night and I was stocking the chip rack (I know, I know: working fast-food ain't pretty). And on the cases of chips, someone had written "Minus what you take".
And I'm not naturally an asshole, but I do cultivate the skill. I know who wrote it: she puts up the stock twice a week, and her second job is as a journalist. Supposedly she's won a number of awards, which makes me want to ask why it's not paying her bills, then.
Then I saw a sentence like that.
I know I'm not perfect: I habitually begin sentences with conjunctions, I'm a serial comma-splicer, and there are a lot of times I can't spell for shit. But I have never in my life thought that "minus" was the appropriate word choice in that situation.
So I went through our eleven or so cases of chips and corrected the sentence on each. I know that it's petty as all hell, but I do my best to write for my supper, too, and she's giving writers a bad name.
Odds are, she'll know who corrected it, too, since I'm apparently the only person who can stock the chip rack. And I don't care. If you can't remember to the leave the "minus" to when you're reading your equations like a sentence (and not since third grade, mind you) you deserve to have someone cross it out and write "subtract" each time.
IDEAS AND THINGS~
Trying to talk one of my friends into writing with me, since it's been at least five years since we have. I may have her almost convinced --which is good, since I've got a rough draft of a character I've named Rohan. Most of his details should be flexible to whatever she creates to be his mate. If she decides not to do it, though, I've got to come up with someone to match him. And Rohan isn't quite like anyone I've tried to write recently, so he'll be a challenge for me. So it should be fun, if I can get her on board with the notion. Wish me luck~
Still trying to convince one of my friends to hang out or whatever, but so far, my vacation plans are literally fix my car and write like a crazy woman.
"Scandalous" still isn't done yet, and I definitely need a second story to send in with it. I'm actually thinking about coupling it with a different story I've started, but meh. I'll make that decision when I'm done with "Scandalous". I'm hoping to finish it up most of the way, since I'll be on vacation for five days. I get to doge family and responsibilities ---and steal the car to escape now and again.
I think that's all for now, haha. I just save all this stuff up for y'all cause my life gets pretty damn boring some times. Of course, it's work, sleep, and write, mostly the first two with my weird hours.
I'll catch you later, loves!
